Wheelchair Accessible Bathrooms

One of our specialties at Project Wetroom is accessible bathrooms. Every situation is unique and these are sometimes the most important bathrooms to get right due to the impact it can have on a person’s life who might be dealing with a disability of some sort.

Project Wetroom works with you from the design stage, right through to completion. That starts with an initial consultation where we discuss your ideas, take a look at the space we have to work with and take some measurements to formulate a plan for your new accessible bathroom.

We will then work closely with our experienced bathroom designers to help create a layout and design that will work best for your situation and maximise the space you have available and a design that also meets your needs and budget.

Because we are involved from the beginning, we are able to look after the management of the project for you with and supply all required consents, 3D plans & specifications and will make sure that the bathroom fixtures, fittings and design choices are suitable for those with accessibility issues.

A well designed wheelchair accessible bathroom will make the best use of the space available and will look and feel larger, and should require less maintenance, and provide greater accessibility and functionality for the client. More importantly, your new bathroom will be completed above and beyond your expectations providing you with the results you expect.

We are experienced in installing vinyl wet room flooring for rest homes and aged care institutions, as well as wheelchair accessible bathrooms for the elderly and people with disabilities where level access is required. These often require alterations to address bathroom accessibility issues as well as other general bathroom waterproofing services that are above and beyond what most general plumbing companies can provide.

With our experience across a wide range of accessible bathroom projects, we will help advise you on complex design and installation decisions such as wheelchair accessible bathroom projects. Our experience in this area means we can tackle most wheelchair accessible bathrooms in Christchurch and the wider Canterbury area.

Frequently Asked
Questions

u

What exactly do you offer?

We offer a total design to completion service for your proposed bathroom or wetroom renovation. Specialising in mid to high range tiled and accessible bathroom solutions.

u

Do you offer a fixed price quotation?

Yes, all our quotes are fixed price to offer you peace of mind. If any estimates are given then this would be in relation to fixtures & fittings only. The total build including plumbing, electrical, plaster/paint, tiling/floor coverings is always a fixed price.
u

Will i need building consent?

If you are increasing the amount of sanitary fixtures then you will need Full Consent. Installation of a tiled shower when the existing is not, will also require Consent. However if you have a concrete floor then you may qualify for Consent Exemption if it is suitable which is considerably cheaper. Wetrooms with Vinyl as the floor covering may also qualify for Council Exemption.
u

I have an awkward shaped bathroom, what is possible?

We offer a free consultation/quotation and site visit. Being highly experienced with custom bathroom solutions for difficult areas we will be able to quickly establish what the possible options are and explain your options to you.
u

What should my budget be?

This is always very difficult to estimate as there are certain factors that can change things considerably. Age of the property, consent requirements, size, fixtures & fittings, plumbing, electrical, extent of tiling etc.

Full bathroom/wetroom renovations can cost anywhere from $25 to $60K+. To be at the lower end of this budget your home would have ideally been built in the 90’s or later and the choice of fixtures & fittings to be of an average standard. If you wish to install a wet area shower only and leave remainder of bathroom as is? Then a budget of $12 to $17K is realistic, however once again, it is dependent on the same factors mentioned above.

u

How long will my bathroom renovation take?

We pride ourselves on the ability to complete your bathroom in the shortest possible timeframe whilst still providing a top quality finish. Full renovation mid range approx 20-25 working days, high range approx 25-30 working days. Wet area shower approx 10-13 working days.
